SUNDAY 09.09.2018 - 2 sessions |
Morning 9.00 - 12.00, break (12:00-13:30)
Theory & Practice - Levitation in the Flow: The Spine & Core in Arm Balances practice and theory for arm balances (for all Students and Teachers) This session explores how to find steadiness and ease with beginning to advanced arm balances in a Vinyasa Flow-style class. We begin by refining the traditional approach to Sun Salutations as given in Ashtanga Vinyasa with methods informed by contemporary kinesiology; opening and stabilizing the pelvic and shoulder girdles for easier access to complex arm balances; and awakening the deep core musculature that supports that helps to support the spine and to help with levity in hand balancing. Bakasana, Parsva Bakasana, Bhujapidasana, Tittibhasana, Astavakrasana, Eka Pada Koundinyasana, Galavasana, Urdhva Kukkutasana, Uttana Prasithasana and other arm balances will appear along the path of the class, with time to explore each with a variety of different approaches. Afternoon (13:30–16:30) Topic: Making Yoga More Meaningful The heart of this workshop is about becoming more self-aware, self-accepting, and self-actualized, on the mat, off mat, in practicing and in teaching. It's about becoming clearer about one's life path, what the yogis and spiritual philosophers call dharma. We go deeply into self-exploration to discover our deepest longings and inhibitions, fears and joys, obstacles and possibilities. We use breath work, guided meditations, visualization practices, reflective writing, one-on-one sharing and other tools rooted in ancient to modern yoga and other self-transformation traditions to reveal our hidden truths, passions, and potential for living the most extraordinary lives in the here and now. Rather than suggesting that everyone should take a particular path or adopt a given philosophy of life and action in the world, here we allow these insights to emerge from the inner reality of each and every unique being. |
